Server only responds to clients after reboot

We have Domino running on iSeries, R6 server and R6 Clients. The server continues to run and can be checked via the AS/400 command line that it is still running. All clients and the admin client are receiving messages that the "server is not responding." We then restart the server and all clients are able to communicate with it again. We don't want to make assumptions but it sounds like something in the communication between the clients and the server is disrupted in some manner. It is running TCP/IP. We have applied all related patches to the iSeries. This is a new install on a new iSeries. This problem has been occurring since the installation in December and has exhibited random timing.
I don't have anything specific to check, other than you should see if you are over your allocated resources for the partitions, or if any other processes, such as backups, are locking the server. When it happens again, take a NSD and see if Lotus Support can assist you.
