Should we wait for SSO software to upgrade before we bump up our R5.12 mail template and client?

We are migrating from R5.12 to Domino 6.52. We have a mini-dilemma because our single sign-on security for iNotes is Siteminder and this product needs to be upgraded to version 6, and this will take a few months. Our dilemma is that we still want to rollout the R6 client and also change the mail template to R6 to get most of the features. It looks like it works fine and our testing is showing that most of the features work. What, if any, concerns should we have in going to the R6 client with an R6 backend template on a R5.12 server as a temporary (two or three months) interim solution?
The primary concerns I would have would revolve around the template. You are bound to have two to three months, I would simply postpone the template upgrade. Roll the client, as that won't harm anything. However, wait the time to perform the convert on the mail files. That can happen at any time, and it will also give you a few months more of testing to find any anomalies.
