Storing user IDs upon registration

I am looking for a way to store user IDs upon registration, other than a diskette and in the Domino directory. Can you put these in a database of some sort, and what would I need to do if I can do that? We are working toward being able to do password recovery.

If you set up password recovery when creating new users, the users ID's are stored in a central database where they are backed up.
