Use actions on a form across frames

How do you use actions on a form across frames? I would like to be able to put form actions on a separate frame. So that when users are inputting or reading a form these actions do not scroll off the screen. I tried using:
top.Frames["nameofframe"].document["actioname"].click()
after putting the hotspot within div tag on the form and ithis did not work.

As long as this does not interfere with other actions on your frames, you could set the default target for the calling frame to the name of the frame you want to reference with your action.
