Validate e-mail addresses against a Notes name/address book

From a Java application, how do I validate e-mail addresses against a Lotus Notes name and address book? I need similar functionality to Notes, in that typing a shorthand user name generates the expanded, real Notes e-mail address for that user.
Your application should perform lookups to hidden view in the Domino directory to see if the name entered is in the view. Take a look at the view "($NamesFieldLookup)" –- I think it's just what you're looking for.
