Former Lotus executive named to Outsell board

Former Lotus executive Don McLagan has been named a founding member and chair of Outsell Inc.'s board of executive advisors. Outsell is an information industry research and advisory firm in Burlingam, Calif. McLagan was vice president and general manager of the Information Service Division at Lotus, Cambridge, Mass., which grew to be a $30 million business unit. He left Lotus to create Desktop Data and became chief executive officer of NewsEdge Corp. when it was formed by the merger of Desktop Data with Individual Inc. and ADP/ISS. He has reitred from that position.

Centra promotes two executives

Centra, a provider of software and ASP services for live e-learning and business collaboration in Lexington, Mass., has promoted two company executives, one of them a former Lotus employee. Joe Gruttadauria, who joined Centra in 1996 and has built its professional services and support organization, has been promoted to senior vice president of professional services. Alan May, who has been instrumental in the development, growth and management of Centra's partner programs, has been promoted to vice president of strategic alliances. He was formerly a member of the Lotus team that initiated and built the Lotus Business Partner Program.

United Messaging appoints new vice president

United Messaging, an enterprise messaging and e-mail solution provider in West Chester, Penn., has appointed Andrew May vice president Europe, Middle East and Africa marketing. The appointment signals the company's continued commitment to growth in the region. He will report directly to Richard Wheeler, managing director, EMEA. May will drive the United Messaging marketing effort across the EMEA region and has specific responsibility for setting the marketing strategy, building the United Messaging brand and providing tactical support programs for the company's EMEA operations. United Messaging is a messaging application service provider that delivers hosted e-mail and collaboration services to medium and large-sized business enterprises. The company leverages people, processes and technologies to provide hosted Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes/Domino and Internet messaging applications.

Red Hat hires former IBM executive

Red Hat Inc., a company which develops, deploys and manages open source Internet infrastructure solutions based in Research Triangle Park, N.C. , has named Dr. James Neiser chief marketing officer. He is a six-year veteran of IBM where he was the vice president of worldwide channel and customer set market, working across IBM, Software Group, Lotus and Tivoli to integrate and develop a common set of programs for all channel partner types and programs targeted at mid-sized businesses.

Meetings made easier

Gentner Communications Corp. has integrated its Instant Access Conference Calling service with IBM's Lotus Notes and Lotus Sametime business-productivity applications. Gentner and Symatrix Technology Inc. developed the solution, which allows instant scheduling of audio and Web meetings through the Lotus Notes calendar and Lotus Sametime Meeting Center. Now, when Notes/Sametime users schedule a meeting, they will be able to add the audio and Web components with the click of a button. Invitations containing the necessary phone number, pass code and Web address for the Lotus Sametime meeting will automatically be sent to all scheduled participants. The companies said they are working to make it as easy to schedule a Web-based meeting as it is to schedule are live meeting at the office. Gentner is a Salt Lake City, Utah, company that develops, markets and distributes products and services for the professional communications and broadcast markets. Symatrix Technology Inc. is an enterprise technology solutions company and IBM Premier Business Partner in Portland, Ore.
