Calendar delegation problem with Lotus Notes client 6.5.5 upgrade
IBM Lotus has urged customers to upgrade to Notes/Domino 6.5.5 and 7.0.1 for security reasons. But a newly discovered calendar delegation problem in the Lotus Notes 6.5.5 client software may be concern enough to delay your upgrade.

In my last DominoSecurity.org newsletter, I urged an upgrade to Notes/Domino 6.5.5 and 7.0.1 for security reasons.
Thanks to one of the readers on the DominoSecurity.org mailing list, I have become aware of a feature problem in the Lotus Notes client software 6.5.5. If this feature is important to you, you may want to keep your Notes client software at 6.5.4 and wait for a later release.
The problem is that calendar delegation does not work properly after upgrading a Lotus Notes workstation to 6.5.5. The delegatee cannot create repeating events, reschedule meetings, or edit a meeting in the delegater's calendar. This is a serious -- possibly show-stopper -- issue for many Lotus Notes organizations, since calendar delegation is so widely used.
Lotus has confirmed the existence of this problem and slated a fix for 6.5.6, which is scheduled for released in January 2007.
Note that this problem is related to the Notes 6.5.5 client software. The problem does not appear to be in the 6.5.5 Domino server or Web browser access to a 6.5.5 server. Also, no one has reported the same issue with Notes 7.0.1.

We just completed the Domino 6.5.5 upgrade due to the dire security warnings. Now we're looking at the dilemma of what is more important -- calendar delegation or the security issues of Domino 6.5.4. So far, we haven't had any calendaring complaints, and I sure don't want to go back and say, "By the way, that 6.5.5 upgrade wasn't really necessary," especially since the people using delegation would probably be the least desirous of re-installing a security problem. How serious is the security threat, really?

This article indicates that Lotus is aware of the issue and has slated a fix for 6.5.6. Is there a Software Productivity Research number (SPR#) or Lotus Knowledge Base article that identifies this that we can reference? The closest I have been able to find is Lotus article #1231036.

I believe that the SPR is being analyzed now, and is not yet entered into the public database.
