LotusScript on the web

This tip describes the use of LotusScript on the Web.

Ever been told that you cannot use LotusScript in your web forms and left it at that?

This is not entirely true. LotusScript works perfectly well in web forms if you know where and how.

The rules are thus:

  1. LotusScript can only be used behind Action Buttons, Hotspots etc. i.e. on the form itself, not the standard form events like QueryOpen & QueryClose. The only form events that can be programmed in web forms are WebQueryOpen and WebQuerySave.
  2. UI classes or any functions which interact with the user cannot be used.

TIP: It is possible to combine Javascript and LotusScript. Use Javascript for user interface, storing user input in hidden fields, then process this data with LotusScript behind action buttons/hotspots.
